How To Choose A Kitchen Knife Sharpener

How To Choose A Best Kitchen Knife Sharpener

It doesn’t matter how good quality kitchen knives you buy—they’ll all need to be sharpened periodically. Besides making it easier to cut and chop, keeping knives sharp is also safer for your fingers: Dull knives can drag or skip while cutting, which can increase your chance of injury. How often you need to sharpen your kitchen knife depends on how often you use the knife, what you cut, and what surface you cut on, but professionals typically recommend sharpening once or twice a year.

Getting ready to sharpen your kitchen knives for the first time can be overwhelming. We’ll tell you what’s great about each option, and what’s not so great. We’ll make some suggestions about which sharpener would be a good fit for your sharpening needs, and list a few popular sharpeners from each category.

  1. Great guide and collection! As a user and tester, I wholeheartedly commend your choice of the Chef’s Choice Trizor XV—it’s a bit on the pricey side but the knife edge quality is some of the best by an electric sharpener. Personally I sharpen my knives more than twice per year, more like every two months actually, with moderate use. But I’m spoiled with sharp knives so.
